Media Guidelines
The Charleston Regional Aviation Authority strives to accommodate media on controlled property, with the following restrictions:
- Filming commercial aircraft is not allowed without the expressed advance written permission from the commercial aircraft owner(s)/permittee(s) being filmed.
- Filming is not permitted inside the TSA security checkpoint, of checkpoint operations, or any TSA employee without advance written permission from the Department of Homeland Security.
- Filming of any tenant or business and its employees in the airport requires advance permission from said business.
NOTE: It is the responsibility of the film permit applicant to obtain Letters of Agreement from the appropriate commercial aircraft owners(s)/permittee(s), TSA, DHS, and airport tenants. Copies of all Letters of Agreements must be included with the film permit application.
Filming Restrictions
Filming, videotaping, and professional photography is allowed in the airport with a revocable permit issued by the Charleston Regional Aviation Authority. The Aviation Authority strives to be transparent with the help of its Media Relations staff to provide citizens with the ability to be fully informed about the activities of the Charleston Regional Aviation Authority. When possible, the media is allowed to visit airport facilities and properties. The following guidelines must be adhered to:
- All activities must be coordinated with Media Relations as well as any tenants and airlines that may be impacted by the filming or photography session.
- Evidence of insurance is required and must be submitted and approved before filming begins. Minimum limits of coverage are defined in the Film Permit Application.
- All Transportation Security Administration (TSA) rules and guidelines must be strictly followed.
- The permitting process requires an approved Charleston Regional Aviation Authority Film Permit Application.
A non-refundable $150 processing fee will be charged to issue a permit. Location fees are assessed based on the amount of time and airport personnel required for coordination and supervision of the filming or photography. Please allow a minimum of two weeks to obtain a permit.
Additional filming fees are detailed in the Film Permit Application.
