Charleston Airport Receives Funding for Future Growth Projects

(North Charleston)— Today, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) announced $23 million dollars in funding for the Charleston International Airport (CHS). The funding is the largest Airport Improvement Program (AIP) Congressionally directed spending in the U.S. Senate.

“We are grateful for Senator Graham’s commitment to the Lowcountry of Charleston and, in particular, the work that we are doing at CHS,” said Elliott Summey, executive director, and CEO. “This investment will allow the Charleston Airport to expand its mission of economic development while allowing our residents and guests to benefit with more direct flights to more cities than ever before. “The airport will soon begin the construction of an additional concourse, as well as remain overnight parking for aircraft, and this funding is a huge investment. Last year, the Charleston Airport saw more than 6 million passengers pass through the terminal, setting records for CHS, the busiest airport in South Carolina."

Senator Graham made the funding request to the Senate Appropriations Committee, of which he is a member.
