Thanksgiving travel tips from Charleston International Airport

(North Charleston, SC)—Thanksgiving is the busiest time of the year at Charleston International Airport. With the expected increase in holiday travelers, passengers should plan ahead.

To get ready for the busy week, here are some tips to make travel easy and enjoyable.

Arrive early. It is recommended that passengers arrive at the airport two hours before their flight departs.

Plan to park. Parking spaces fill quickly during busy travel periods. So, drivers should allow extra time for remote parking and shuttle service to the terminal. If you must park in remote/seasonal parking, 24 hours a 24-hour-a-day complimentary shuttle service will get you to the terminal. You can always get real-time parking availability on our website www.iflyCHS.com.

Follow directional signs. Keep an eye out for signs indicating parking lot entrances, remote parking, and overflow parking. With construction going on at CHS, you may encounter temporary detours or traffic pattern shifts in certain areas. Directional signage will get you where you need to be.

Take advantage of the CHS Check ‘N Go free baggage check-in service for domestic travel. Two stations are conveniently located on the terminal front curb, and a remote check-in station is located on the 2nd level of the Daily Parking Garage.

Pack carry-on luggage wisely. Head over to “What Can I Bring” on the Transportation Security Administration website to see what can be packed in carry-on and checked baggage. Passengers should be prepared to remove electronic devices, liquids, powders, and food to be separately screened by the TSA.

“Thanksgiving is the kickoff to the holiday travel season. With record-breaking numbers year after year, we expect to be busy this year as well,” said Elliott Summey, president and CEO of the Charleston International Airport. “With just a bit of advance planning, you can focus on enjoying the holiday with your loved ones”.
