CHARLESTON, S.C. – Add the Bluegrass State to the roster of nonstop destinations from Charleston International Airport. On Tuesday, Allegiant Airlines announced it will begin new service between the Lowcountry and Louisville.
The twice-weekly flight between Charleston and Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport begins May 22, and will operate on Mondays and Fridays.
Allegiant began serving Charleston in 2018, with flights to Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. Last year, the Las Vegas-based carrier launched additional seasonal service to Cleveland and Punta Gorda, Florida.
“We are extremely pleased that Allegiant continues to strengthen its service to Charleston International Airport by offering the good people of our region a new direct service to Louisville. Allegiant’s unique business model has clearly been well received by our travelers, some of whom may have not considered air travel an option in the past,“ said Paul G. Campbell, Jr., Chief Executive Officer of Charleston County Aviation Authority. “It has been rewarding to see the partnership with Allegiant flourish in such a short time.”
“We are thrilled Allegiant is creating this connection between the Derby City and the Holy City. It’s a win for both Louisville and Charleston area residents who can now more affordably and easily travel between these iconic destinations,” said Helen Hill, Helen Hill, Chair of the Aviation Authority Board and Chief Executive Officer of Explore Charleston.
“Last year was exceptional for the airport. Announcement of nonstop service to a new market is evidence the positive momentum continues,” Hill added.
Along with Allegiant’s Louisville service, Southwest also expands its offerings this summer with new nonstop flights to Atlanta and Kansas City.
By June, Charleston International will have nonstop flights to 28 cities in 18 states, the District of Columbia and London.
