CHARLESTON, SC— The roster of airlines serving Charleston International Airport (CHS) continues to grow. Avelo Airlines today announced nonstop service between the Lowcountry and Southern Connecticut’s most convenient airport, Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN).
The new route begins May 5 and connects Charleston area travelers to Connecticut’s second-largest city. Avelo becomes the 12th airline serving CHS.
Service between CHS and HVN will initially operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, before a fourth weekly flight on Saturday is added, beginning May 26. Avelo will operate Boeing Next-Generation 737-700 aircraft on the HVN route.“Today’s announcement is yet another exciting milestone in our rapidly growing low-cost, nonstop service for Lowcountry travelers,” said Elliott Summey, Charleston Airport Director, and CEO. “It is exciting to have another new air carrier at Charleston International and our first nonstop service to New Haven, Connecticut. Avelo’s partnership with Charleston International solidifies our commitment to increasing flights to the Northeast.”
Avelo Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said, “Charleston — say hello to Avelo. We are excited to offer Charleston exclusive nonstop service to Southern Connecticut. With our low fares and HVN’s unmatched convenience, Avelo makes getting to Connecticut and all the region has to offer easier than ever. We look forward to welcoming Charleston to Avelo’s rapidly expanding national network of popular destinations.”
"Avelo's decision to expand service to the Lowcountry within its first year of operation exemplifies the Charleston area's economic strength and potential,” said Helen Hill, CEO of Explore Charleston and Board Chair of the Aviation Authority. “Our region's travel industry enjoyed a robust recovery last year that consistently outpaced national averages. The opportunity to develop this new partnership with Avelo and expand access to and from the Northeast is a significant step toward maintaining that momentum in 2022.”
