CHS Sees Record-breaking Traffic During July 4th Holiday

(North Charleston)—Charleston International Airport is once again shattering passenger travel records. Nearly 117,000 travelers passed through the TSA checkpoint during the July 4th holiday period, a twelve percent increase from last year.

"As we close out this record-breaking July 4th holiday travel period, we are proud to announce unprecedented numbers of travelers passing through our airport," said Elliott Summey, executive director and CEO of Charleston International Airport. "This milestone reflects our community's spirit and resilience and underscores our commitment to providing exceptional service and ensuring smooth journeys for all passengers. We thank our dedicated staff, airline partners, and all of those people and businesses who work in the airport for their hard work in making this holiday period a success."

Summey says, "The Charleston area continues to be a top destination for leisure and business travelers. Our efforts to recruit new airlines with more direct flights to more cities allow locals to visit other cities and, more importantly, new visitors to our region."

The Transportation Security Administration broke a new record on July 7th, screening over 3 million travelers at U.S. airports—the most people ever in a single day.
