Airport Authority Selects Helen T. Hill as Board Chair

The Board of the Charleston County Aviation Authority unanimously elected Helen Turner Hill as Chairman at its September meeting today. First appointed to the Charleston County Aviation Authority Board in 2014, she will serve as the board’s first female Chair in its storied history. She has served as board Secretary and Vice Chairman.

Hill is chief executive officer of Explore Charleston, the region’s official destination marketing organization representing nine area municipal governments and 40,000 people employed in the hospitality industry. She has played a crucial role in landing Southwest, Jet Blue, Alaska, Frontier, Allegiant and most recently British Airways at the airport that has resulted in doubling passenger activity in the past 8 years.

"It has become increasingly evident, throughout her career, that Hill offers a unique perspective and a refreshing leadership style that will serve the Charleston County Aviation Authority well." said Paul Campbell the airport’s executive director and CEO. " She rightfully sees Charleston International Airport as a major economic development engine in our region that also needs to serve the needs of local residents,” he added.

North Charleston Mayor and board member Keith Summey said, “Helen Hill has shown her leadership ability over the years in the greater Charleston area and has always shown herself available to meet the needs of the community. Summey added, “Helen is an excellent choice as Chairman and it’s time to look outside the male gender of leadership and have someone like Hill step in.”

“I am honored to follow the outstanding leadership of our past Chairman and look forward to working even more closely with the fantastic team at CCAA” said Hill.

The slate of board members for 2019 -2020 is listed below.
