The Jan. 3 winter storm dumped 5.3 inches of snow and ice on the CHS. When temperatures did not climb above the 30s during the day and the teens and 20s at night, runway snow clearing machinery was brought in to remove compacted ice and snow.

The safety of our passengers, airlines and airport workers is our top priority as Charleston International Airport and the Lowcountry works to recover from this week's winter storm. Travel by car around the area remains difficult due to ice sheets on most secondary (non interstate) roadways. Please drive carefully.
Runway and taxiway conditions at the airport are being frequently monitored by airport operations and Joint Base Charleston. The runways will reopen as soon as it is safe for aircraft to take off and land. We are not able to predict when that will be at this time.
Future updates will be posted when information is available. Look for them here and on our Facebook and Twitter channels @iflyCHS.
