CHS has biggest June ever in 2018
More than 2.1 million people flew in and out of Charleston International Airport during the first six months of 2018 – a 10 percent increase over the same six months in 2017.
“We knocked it out of the park in June,” said Paul G. Campbell Jr., executive director and CEO of the Charleston County Aviation Authority.
For June, 446,314 people flew to and from Charleston, a nearly 20 percent increase compared to June 2017.
So far this year, 1,061,060 people have boarded a plane in Charleston bound for one of 25 cities and 30 airports. Another 1,065,603 passengers arrived in Charleston on a flight provided by one of eight airlines serving CHS.
“It’s our best June yet thanks to our airline partners and all of those people and businesses who work in the airport to help make travel through Charleston a seamless and exceptional experience,” Campbell said. “We are on track to top 4 million passengers in 2018. That will be a major milestone for CHS.”
Passenger growth at Charleston International Airport continues to be bolstered by the addition of Frontier and Allegiant airlines and six new destinations offered by both ultra-low-cost carriers. A seventh new destination begins Aug. 15 with nonstop flights twice a week to Minneapolis-St. Paul aboard Frontier.
Additionally, long-time airlines at CHS continue to expand service by offering additional routes and flying larger aircraft that seat more people. Beginning Aug. 13 Delta Air Lines flight 1350 that departs at 11:30 a.m. daily will upgauge from an MD-88 to a 757-D aircraft that seats 199 people. The MD88 seats between 130 and 177 passengers.
